Volunteer with Us - The Serah Project

Volunteer with Us

Join Esther and the Serah Project family — use your gifts to bring hope, love, and transformation to children of prisoners in Uganda.

Why Volunteer with The Serah Project?

At the Serah Project, volunteers are the hands and feet of Christ's love. Whether you're in Uganda or joining from abroad, your time and talents help rescue children from despair, provide them with family-like care, education, and spiritual nurturing, and support prison ministry that brings redemption and hope.

Volunteering here isn't just service — it's partnership in God's work of restoration. You'll witness children learn to smile, say "thank you," dream big, and know they are deeply loved. Many volunteers describe it as life-changing for them too.

“Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.” — Matthew 25:40

Volunteer Opportunities

We welcome people with all kinds of skills and passions. Opportunities include short-term (2–12 weeks), long-term (6+ months), local Ugandan volunteers, and international partners. Here are some of the key roles:

  • Child Care & Family Support — Help provide daily care, play games, offer emotional support, assist with homework, and create a loving home environment for rescued children.
  • Teaching & Education — Support classroom activities, teach English/basic skills, lead Bible stories, art, music, or sports sessions to build confidence and knowledge.
  • Prison Ministry Assistance — Join Esther on prison visits (with proper clearance) to pray with inmates, distribute essentials, and encourage parents whose children are in our care.
  • Community & Construction Support — Help with community outreach, gardening, maintenance, or future building projects — just like local volunteers who donated bricks and labor.
  • Administrative & Fundraising — Assist with office tasks, social media updates, donor communication, clothing drives, or fundraising events from anywhere in the world.
  • Skills-Based Volunteering — Medical professionals, counselors, teachers, IT experts, photographers — bring your expertise for workshops, health checks, or program improvements.

We especially value faith-filled individuals who are passionate about prayer, Scripture, and showing Christ's love in practical ways.

What We're Looking For

  • A heart for vulnerable children and families affected by imprisonment
  • Commitment to our Christian values and biblical principles
  • Respect for Ugandan culture, child protection policies, and privacy
  • Basic health clearance and (for prison access) police clearance/background check
  • For international volunteers: willingness to adapt to simple living conditions
  • Minimum age: 18 (exceptions for supervised family volunteering)

No prior experience is required for many roles — passion and teachability matter most!
